This week was grocery shopping week so I had to spend money. My goal was to stay 1. On budget 2. Under budget by as much as possible. I guess 1 out of 2 is not too bad! I was under budget:)
Whole Foods: $147.44
Gas: Deaundre: $28.00
Chipotle: $7.03 (Buy 1 Get 1 Free Coupon!)
Total for the week: $324.27
I currently visit Target mainly just for cereal. I love Cascadian Farms Cinnamon Crunch Cereal. In Whole Foods, it is $4.99 per box and it is $3.09 a box in Target. Since we have cereal for breakfast daily (and sometimes other meals as this is my low calorie meal of choice) I figured making the extra stop at Target is worth it! I am trying out a homemade oatmeal this week. I will let you know how it turns out. It would be a LOT cheaper than my cereal, lol.
This week I was reminded from another blog about a show we used to watch (when we had cable) called Till Debt Do Us Part. It came on CNBC and featured Gail Vaz-Oxlade a financial coach helping couples get on a budget and out of debt. As part of the screening process, the couples had to provide the show with bank statements to allow Gail to prepare and get a sense of what you are currently doing with your money. She would often make a chart that showed the couple how much they shopped, or spent money in a month. She would give you a number like “you shopped 27 days this month.” Then go on to list the dates: “you went shopping on the 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 4th,4th,4th,4th…..” you get the idea. I remember watching that and thinking WOW…They are always in the store! This month and really writing down what we spent, has allowed me to think about just how many transaction you can have in a month and how easy it is to have them. On a regular day, you could stop for coffee on the way in to work, buy lunch, and pickup soap on the way home. The next day you could realize you are out of milk so you pick that up, pick up your dry cleaning, and get gas. That is 2 days and 6 transactions!
Takeaway #1: Continue to write down my purchases.
Takeaway#2: Minimize Transactions or Don’t be spending money every day! (That use of bad grammar was intentional. Helps make the point. Your welcome:)
Things I wanted to buy:
Another Gap Academy Blazer I saw on ebay. #love
While in Target, I saw they had Pyrex on sale. I had to walk past a pie plate on sale for $3.91!! Yep just 4 bucks. But I did it! #winning
Things I will definitely buy when this is over:
Can opener and Pizza cutter (Pray that my can opener makes it to March)
Oh and another Gap Academy Blazer (maybe? please?)
I should probably also figure out why this light came on in my car Saturday morning.
Side note: Don’t you hate it when a light comes on as soon as you start your car? I was like “who was in my car messing with the air bag last night?” LOL
Anyone else watching their spending? What were your temptations? Anyone know if GM has a recall on airbags? I have a 2010 Malibu. #letmeknow
