Am I the only one trying to put the wheels back on the bus after the holiday? I feel like I am still trying to get a handle on my eating, and spending …. both important if I am trying to loose weight and get out of debt.
So I am doing a no spend month for the month of February or a rendition called: The month of No! (The exclamation point is not optional. It is required to let you know how serious I am). Now the No Spend Month is not a new idea. I first heard about it and tried it after reading about it on Small Notebook. Every year, usually after the holiday, I feel the need to refocus. Marketing is real you guys. It gets to everyone. My inbox is full of offers, sales, coupons. This has even trickled over to my Instragram. Yes you read it right. I follow some stores and boutiques who sell via Instagram. It’s everywhere I tell ya! Who can resist a filtered cute outfit!
So in February, we are saying No! No to email offers, No to dinners out, No to all forms of non-food related shopping.
Here are my rules. I will update here weekly (I promise) to share my progress. I will share what I wanted to buy but didn’t.
1. No clothes shopping
2. No kitchen gadget shopping (this has become a thing…I am ashamed…#notreally)
3. No aimless Target shopping (I am allowing myself one trip to buy necessities for the month. ex. soap)
4. Eat out only once per week. The one exception is I have to buy lunch on two Fridays that I have class because there is nowhere to store or heat up a lunch. It is important to state these will not be elaborate nights out. It will probably be a burrito bowl from the Chipotle…with a coupon, but it will give me a kitchen break.
What I will spend money on:
-Toiletries (necessary only)
-Weekly paper for coupons (if I can’t get free ones)
We have also decided to not spend on Valentines Day. We will spend a nice evening at home and I already have a Lasagna in the freezer for the occasion:) We also have a gift card to the movies which we will use for our date night out!
That is it! If anyone wants to join me, feel free to create your own rules and come along. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section! If you just want to check back here each week for an update, I am ok with that also! I plan to list what we spent money on and what I wanted to spend money on, lol.
