So to continue my series called “I lost weight for smaller clothes but I failed to plan to actually buy said smaller clothes”…today I want to talk about bras. That’s right bras.
(Men feel free to click away or not, there will be a picture of a bra if you are into that sort of thing)
Good foundations are important and if you have a rack over the size of say an A cup, I think paying attention to this area is important. No one wants saggy girls…
So when I lost weight, my bras ceased to fit. I don’t think I lost much of the actual boobies, just the meat around the boobies and of course my band size went down. A few months ago I tried to just order a smaller cup and band size since my cup was a little baggie and the band was huge, but the size smaller wouldn’t fit even with an extender. So frustrating.
Eventually I realized I would probably have to get bras somewhere different, but I hate getting measured in any store accept one local St. Louis bra shop but the prices in there are crazy. I wanted to buy online because I can get a better deal. So entered a measuring tape.
And Youtube Exhibit B:
After some searching, I found this video by Caty135 that EVERY WOMAN ON EARTH SHOULD WATCH. Share with every woman you know including Grandmas and 3 month olds!!!! Its long but has the greatest info. #lifechanger Turns out we have all been hoodwinked in the measuring yourself for a bra department. They are measuring us to fit in their bras they sell but that might not be the best bra for us. They also are trying to fit us all in A-DD..maybe a DDD cups which is not right.
The video demonstrates the best way to measure yourself. For your band size, measure where your band will sit (not over top of your boobs which is common in mall stores). For your cup size, measure across the fullest part of your bust while leaning over until you are as parallel as possible with the floor. Also topless helps.
After doing this myself at home, you will need a partner. Married ladies should enlist hubby’s help and non-married ladies should enlist a girlfriend’s help. The friend’s job will be to make sure when you measure for the cup size that the measuring tape is in the right place across your back and not twisted. Also my hubby wrote down the measurements for me. #thanksbabe
So my measurements were 34 1/2 (I rounded down to 34 since we know band sizes comes in even numbers) and 43. So you want to subtract your band size from your cup size. Mines is a 9 inch difference. I used this chart (scroll down mid article for the chart) to tell me what cup size I needed. I also went with the european size vs. the US size as suggested. So I ended up with a 34G. I also noted the next size up just in case the band would not fit so I wanted to try on a 36GG as well. So armed with this information, as Caty135 suggested off to Nordstrom Rack I went to try out my new sizes.
Once there, I was unable to find a 34G, but I found a 36G and a 34GG. The GG cup was a little baggy..The 36 band was a little big…the G cup was perfect and so was the 34 band. So I assumed the 34G should be perfect.
The prices in Nordstrom Rack were decent. Note: Bras for my size usually run about $40-50 each and I saw some marked down to around the $30 price, but I need all new bras, so I am trying to rack up at the lowest price possible. So I decided to shop where I would have never shopped for intimates before…Ebay.
Now before everyone gets all freaked out… Let me explain:
1. You can buy new with tags or new without tags if you are not comfortable with a used bra.
2. They are going for about $24 each. (I need 4-5 bras plus a few workout bras)
3. I might not be in these bras long (as I am still loosing weight) so I don’t want to invest a lot of money at this point.
I decided to look at Wacoal. A gym friend of mine raves about a Wacoal sports bra she has and I loved the one I tried on at Nordstrom Rack and they got great reviews on Amazon, so I figured I would try one of those first. Here is what I bought:
|WACOAL#855285 -SPOT ON UNDERWIRE BRA BLACK|
Cost me about $15.99 because I had a $5 off Ebay coupon and this one is new without tags. #nogermsyo
So it arrived Thursday and it fits great!!!! This bra seems so well made. The underwire seems like real wire!!
So let me know what you think of the video??? Do you have a favorite bra that I should check out??? Please share in the comments below or here on Facebook!!!
